Tortuga Man Strikes Again!

Within 2 minutes of our arrival at a local park for our homeschool park day, Ryan pulled this out of the creek. It probably weighs between 12 and 15 pounds and is about the diameter of a dinner plate. The front claws were almost an inch long. Ryan looks small in these pictures but he's 5'8" and of average teenage lanky build. Thanks Patricia for taking the pictures! I should know by now to keep my batteries charged and camera on hand!
Go HERE to see the first turtle he pulled from this same creek, earlier this summer.

****edit 9/30/07**** We have since learned that maybe neither of them are Alligator Snapping Turtles but most likely Common Snapping Turtles. If anyone knows for sure, please comment!

What a "monster"! We had a turtle like this in our yard once. We have some creeks running behind our neighborhood and figure he took a wrong turn! Luke carried him around the neighborhood showing him off to folks and then we took him to a local pond.

Great find! Barb

Because of the webbing, I thought he was some kind of sea turtle. But I can't find one that looks like him. He a fine fellow anyway.

Wow! We don't have turtles like that in AZ...actually, we don't have any up here that I know of, just desert tortoises down south, but it's super illegal to do anything with them other than try to help them on their way...
